Unit 3: Funding a Production

Types of Funding

Public Funding:

Public Funding comes from Public Organizations such as things like: Lottery funding, Arts Council funding and Local Authority.

Arts Council invest in art and culture for a lasting return and they also offer grants for the arts which is funding programme for individuals, art organisations and other people who use the arts in their work. They offer wards from £1,000 to £100,000 to support a wide variety of arts-related activities, from dance to visual arts, literature to theatre, music to combined arts. They like to invest public money to make great art that has an impact on everyone's lives.

Lottery funding is a quick and easy way to get Lottery grants between £500 and £10,000. It aims to help people become actively involved in projects that benefit their local community. This is a general programme for all types of heritage projects across the UK. The National Lottery invests in all kinds of different programmes etc. within their local community to help disadvantaged people etc.

Private Funding:

Private funding comes from Private Organizations such as things like: Match funding, Just Giving Pages, Crowd funding, Revenue, Advertising, In Kind, Sponsorship and Personal funding or your own contribution. For example if you wanted to get private funding for performing arts you need to do these following things: Research Community funding sources so therefore before you ask for funding, you need to know where to find it so do your homework on different private funding through local arts councils and people who you know in other arts groups. Next you will need to conduct a feasibility study so therefore if you approach a fundraising campaign through a professional fundraiser, they'll conduct a feasibility study to assess how receptive decision makers will be to your group, your program and the amount you want to raise and your profile within the community. And lastly your approach foundations and individuals. So once you have solidified your personal and case for support, prequalified whom you plan to approach for funding and enlisted a campaign chairperson  with strong community ties, you're then ready to fill out all of the paperwork.
