Unit 40: 17/10/17
Singing Rehearsals
On Tuesday the 17th of October 2017, the Musical theatre class had singing rehearsals in which we say some ensemble songs called: Everybody Out, Storm Clouds, and Pay day. We sorted out harmonies for 'Everybody out' for the part in the song where it goes 'Everybody x4' but it changes pitch every time its say over the four times. It starts low and gradually get's higher so its left with the highest note. So we separated into four groups to determine who would sing what part. I was in the lowest group and we sang each everybody four times at the same pitch, then when we sang the first 'everybody' the next group joined in at their pitch and so on and so fourth until all four 'everybody's' are sang. With storm clouds we harmonised on the line 'storm clouds on the horizon' to make it more eerie and elegant at the same time. Lastly with 'pay day' we all sang and because the class already have a dance choreographed for this particular song as it is going to be performed in the dance show. So we all stood around the piano and figured out who would sing each part when the women are ordering at the bar during the song and then once the song was learnt we then tried to incorporate the choreographed dance into the song, which took some time to figure out who was where and gaging the space that we had to do the dance in the theatre. We also added in elongating the last 'baby' when the word 'baby' is repeated four times to symbolise that the women want 'baby sham' and that 'baby sham' is better than 'Brown Ale' which is what the men are arguing is better in the song.
This was a really useful rehearsal because we came to terms with what the ensemble songs sounded like and the pace and the tempo etc. We also sorted out harmonies for the majority of the emsemble songs which was really helpful.
